Christmas Sensory Tub

My nineteen month old is driving me crazy by pulling off the ornaments from the Christmas tree. To satisfy his desire to touch the pretty, shiny ornaments, I made this Christmas sensory tub today. First I filled it with a TON of cotton balls and then added some of the ornaments from the tree. I still had to sit with him as he explored since some of them are breakable, but he loved being able to touch them. I plan to change out the ornaments each day. Hopefully, this will prevent me from having to buy all new ornaments next year!

For more great ideas check out the posts that I am linking to: Adventures of Bear, Activity Mom, and Our Worldwide Classroom.

  1. How fun! Last year, my son was 14 months old and he broke so many ornaments! Thankfully they were only the ball ones.

  2. What a neat idea. I've taken the mean mummy option and haven't evenput up our large Christmas Tree, I just couldn't face that with a 16 month old running around the house. Oh and thanks for linking up too. :)

  4. That's a good idea. I think at that age our solution was to just put the non-breakable ones down there, and I think the ornaments were rather sparse at the 2 foot level....

  5. What a fun way to ensure that your son still gets to explore the decorations, without driving you nuts around the Christmas tree.

It was great to read your post with the goals about maths. I love making up activities when I have clear goals in my mind.

Those Robot sugar cookies are awesome. They will make fantastic party favours. What a prefect cookie to decorate as well, so many creative decorative features you could put on these.

I have only just added myself as a follower to your blog. I thought that I had already done this and I am shocked that I obviuosly hadn't. Anyway, I am now officially a follwer of your blog - as I should have been months ago.

  8. I love the idea although miraculously my 20 month old isn't touching the ornaments this year, so I don't know if I want to let him... hmmmmmmm... But I do want to play around with this idea. Thanks for sharing!
